We are committed to protecting your information and we believe you have a right to know how we will use it. This policy sets out the data protection principles we follow in relation to our dealings with customers – people who have booked or are looking to book a cottage for a holiday in Finland.
You can always find the latest version of this policy on our website. This version of the policy is effective from 25 May 2018.

We only use your personal data in order to facilitate your booking or when you have given us specific consent e.g. by subscribing to our newsletter. You have the right to withdraw this consent at any time, but bear in mind that if you have a cottage booked for a holiday in the future, we will need to hold onto your data so we can process the booking in due course.
You have the right to receive a copy of your personal data and ask us to correct or remove your data, when it is no longer required for the purposes of facilitating your booking. You will need to contact us by email, to exercise these rights.
Our newsletter includes an unsubscribe link, so you can easily cancel your subscription at any time.
If you are unhappy with our use of your data, you must at first instance contact our Data Protection Officer. You also have the right to make a complaint to the body that oversees data protection in Finland – Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman.
Personal information we collect
In order to facilitate your booking, we collect the following information:
Name, postal address, phone number, email address, property booked, rental period booked, cost of booking, amounts paid, payment method, third party payment service provider references, email conversations, any feedback you have given us and whether you wish to subscribe to our newsletter.
Please note that we do not capture or store your payment card details: card payments are handled by our payment service provider Checkout Finland Oy (see below).

We use your personal information to:
- Manage your cottage booking
- Communicate with you by email or messages on social media
- Process your payments
- Send you our monthly newsletter (with your permission)

We receive personal information from you, when you:
- Provide it to us by making a booking or by giving a cottage review
- Subscribe to our newsletter
Legal basis of processing
We need to process your personal data in order to facilitate your booking. We will retain relevant data for up to six years for legal and accounting purposes.
How we share your personal information
We give some of your contact information to property owners, so they can prepare for your arrival and get in touch about key collection and so on. We also give you their contact details, for the same reason.
If you subscribe to our newsletter, your name and email will be shared with our email newsletter platform MailChimp, The Rocket Science Group, LLC, 675 Ponce de Leon Ave NE, Suite 5000, Atlanta, GA 30308 USA, which is under strict obligations to protect your privacy and comply with your marketing preferences.
We never share your personal details with a third party for marketing purposes.
Security of your data
We protect your personal data by storing it in a secure booking system in electronic format. We also keep a paper copy of your booking, which is archived in Finland Cottage Rentals offices.
All payments are processed securely by our payment service provider and no card details are handled or stored in Finland Cottage Rentals offices or the booking system.
Our payment service provider is Checkout Finland Oy, Eteläpuisto 2 C, 33200 Tampere, Finland (Business registration number 2196606-6.
Local Storage (Cookies)
If you use the ‘My Favourites’ feature on our website, we will store your preferred cottages for your later reference using Local Storage technology. Local Storage is a new cookie-like technique, that is used for the same purposes as cookies to improve your user experience on our website.
