Ylläs Ski Resort is a popular Lapland holiday destination offering a wide range of services. There is the famous Jounin Kauppa supermarket and shopping centre in Äkäslompolo, plus numerous restaurants, cafes, sports shops, gyms and souvenir shops. The village also has a pharmacy and a thermal spa with various pools and saunas. Children can try driving a snowmobile on their own snowmobile track, and there are several long sledging hills for kids. For four-legged friends, the resort has dog parks and also dog tracks where you can cross-country ski together with your pet. Several restaurants also allow well-behaved pets inside.
Ylläs has many accommodation options for families, couples and groups. Many rental cabins in Ylläs are located close to the centre and you can conveniently reach the services and ski slopes on foot or by ski bus. Ylläs cabins are high quality and range from cosy log cabins to holiday apartments and luxury villas packed with amenities. WiFi, dishwasher, TV and washing machine are standard in most rental cabins, and most have a lockable storage room for ski equipment.
Lapland cabins are great for families with children. Most have travel cots and high chairs available. You can also ask the cabin owner if there are safety gates on the stairs. If you want to bring a pet, always check the cabin description to see if pets are welcome, or ask the cabin owner about this. Some rental properties do not allow pets.
Ylläs is a popular holiday destination, especially in winter, when you can not only cross-country or downhill ski, but also enjoy snowshoe walking, snowboarding and fat bike riding. There are 62 varied ski slopes and 300km of cross-country ski tracks, so even the most enthusiastic skiers have plenty to explore. Ylläs has a large Snow Park and thrilling, fast-paced experiences such as snowmobiling and ice karting are available.
In winter, try a snowmobile, reindeer or husky safari. You can hire a wide selection of ski equipment and the ski school will teach the basics of skiing or improve your existing skills. In summer, the bright nights provide a great setting for enjoying hobbies late into the night. Go hiking in the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. Go kayaking or rafting, ride a bike on the fells or in the Ylläs Bike Park, experience a midnight sun horse riding tour, play disc golf, go fishing or photograph the breathtaking nature of Lapland.
Kittilä Airport is located just a 30 minute drive from Ylläs. From the airport, you can easily take the airport bus to either of the Ylläs villages during the ski season. Please note that connecting flights from Air Baltic only leave after the arrival of the Finnair flight. During off-season, you can travel from the airport to Ylläs by taxi, which must be ordered in advance.
The nearest train station is in Kolari. Take a hire car or bus to Levi. Bus transportation is organised by, for example Rundgren.
Ski buses in Ylläs run between the resort’s largest accommodation areas and the slopes during the winter season when the slopes are open.
