Island Cottage in Saimaa

Island Cottage in Saimaa is a cosy lakeside hideaway on Kuiva-Haapio island by beautiful Lake Saimaa near Varkaus. The cottage has an idyllic setting that is both peaceful and secluded. Experience a truly authentic cottage holiday and enjoy being surrounded by stunning nature, forest and water. The access to the island is part of the experience, as cars must be left at the mainland and the final stretch of the journey across the water is by rowing boat – just long enough for you to experience a gentle transition from everyday life to island time. The cottage and the sleeping house next door together sleep 6 guests (up to 6 adults + 2 children). The main cottage has a homely kitchen, cosy living room with a sofa, arm chairs, fireplace and a dining set for 6-8 people. A comfortable bedroom has a double bed and a wardrobe for your clothes and belongings. The cottage also has a relaxed sitting room with rattan chairs, a chemical WC and a wood-heated traditional sauna with a shower. The second bedroom is located in annex sleeping house,  where you will find two single beds (also possible to order additional mattress beds for two children for an additional charge (15€ / person). Extra beds are located in the main cottage on a sofa bed. The modern comforts in the cottage include running water (for shower and dishwashing), electricity, radiators and a fireplace that brings extra warmth on colder months. Logs are provided, but you are also welcome to chop your own, if this is something you enjoy doing. A complimentary baby cot and highchair are available by prior request. Free Wi-Fi and an air source heat pump.    

The terrace at the cottage offers magnificent lake views and there is a gas BBQ for cooking all your summer favourites. A dining set is also provided, so you can enjoy meals outside in the fresh air. There is a private pier by the lake shore for relaxing on sunny days and perhaps reading a book. The lake shore also has a small sandy beach, from where smaller children can easily access the clean water for paddling and fun games. A place for a camp fire is also provided, so you can fry sausages on sticks in true Finnish fashion. Enjoy swimming, fishing, rowing, barbecuing, observing local wildlife and you may even spot an endangered Saimaa seal swimming nearby. The extensive cottage grounds are great for garden games, relaxation and children to play in. Nearby woodland trails invite you to roam and explore with no schedules or crowds. Recommended day trip destinations nearby include Linnansaari and Kolovesi National Parks, both of which are known for their pristine landscapes and rich biodiversity. The medieval Olavinlinna castle in Savonlinna and Punkaharju Ridge Area with its unique landscape of water and forest are also well worth visiting. Some activities can be organized (extra cost) with local people like fishing, boat trip to Linnansaari and more.
